SUMMARY:VIMS Living Shoreline Training (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Learn about dynamic living shoreline designs for coastal resilience.  Registered participants can join a 2-hr virtual session with VIMS shoreline experts\, plus have access to related materials for self-paced learning. \nLive Zoom Session: featuring Scott Hardaway & Donna Milligan\, VIMS Shoreline Studies Program \nTopics include: \n̶      Site-specific living shoreline design process under predictable (FEMA) and unpredictable water levels \n̶      How to use design tools including conversions between NAVD88 & tidal benchmarks \n̶      What is success for shore protection projects How to develop a monitoring plan with short-term and long-term coastal resilience considerations \nThis class is free of charge\, but class size is limited to allow for group interaction.  Registration is required.   Registrations will be accepted on a first-come\, first-serve basis with preference to marine contractors\, Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals\, permit agents\, environmental consultants and any other shoreline professionals directly engaged with living shoreline design and installation. \nFor more information\, contact Karen Duhring karend@vims.edu \n2 CBLP CEUs are available

SUMMARY:Building Momentum for Coastal Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Goal: Multiple actions are currently underway in Virginia to address current and future coastal risk.  Shoreline communities are on the front lines dealing with tidal flooding\, sea level rise\, shoreline erosion\, and development.  Managers and practitioners are working to protect natural storm buffers\, promote effective living shorelines\, and educate the public.  This workshop provides an opportunity for Virginia’s shoreline management community to come together to learn\, discuss\, and build momentum for addressing coastal resilience. \n\n\nPlanned Workshop Topics: \n\nVirginia’s Coastal Resilience Master Plan – where shoreline management fits in\nShoreline Property Owner Perspectives\nTidal Flooding & Sea-Level Rise Mapping Tools\nRegional Resilience Groups\, Collaboratives & Forums\nNGO Initiatives – living shorelines and education outreach\nVA Marine Resources Commission Update\n2019 Virginia General Assembly Update\nOutside Experiences at Teaching Marsh & VIMS Beach\n\n\n\nLocation: Virginia Institute of Marine Science\, Watermen’s Hall.  More details about the workshop location will be provided to registered participants.  \nRegistration Deadline: 9:00AM\, April 29th (firm) \nCBLP CEUs are available.
