SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:WALKING TOUR of UVA’s DELL To Show Landscaping THAT Protects Water Quality \nThe Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and the University of Virginia will hold two walking tours of the Dell on the UVA campus on Tuesday\, May 16\, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday\, May 17\, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The tours will highlight innovative landscaping techniques that reduce polluted runoff\, protect water quality\, and beautify the campus. Jeff Sitler\, associate director of environmental resources at UVA.\, will lead the free interpretive tours. \nThe Dell is an 11-acre park where a once-buried stream running through the center of the UVA. campus was exposed\, transforming derelict and unused land into a state-of-the-art stormwater pond and forebay system. The park also provides wildlife habitat\, creates recreational opportunities\, and serves as an aesthetically pleasing transition from the campus to an adjacent neighborhood. \nSpace on the tours is limited and registration is required. Participants should contact Robert Jennings at rjennings@cbf.org or 484/888-2966. Parking is available in the Central Garage at the U.Va. Bookstore across from the Dell Pond on Emmet Street. Participants should arrive a half-hour early to enjoy light refreshments.
