Level 1

Level 1 Registration 

Winter training dates will be announced in October

Level 1 is our baseline credential that covers design, installation, and management of sustainable landscapes and green infrastructure. Each class, led by regional experts, incorporates classroom work with a field-based practicum and BMP inspection/verification training. CBLP emphasizes critical thinking, interactive learning, and collaborative practice.

Registration is a 2-step process. Before signing up for a class, you must submit an online application. Once the application is approved, you will receive an auto-reply email.  Then, you may return to the website to pay and choose your dates.

The Level 1 fee is $475 and includes all training sessions, course materials and videos, and an examination fee. You must attend all required sessions to sit for the exam.

Participants choose hybrid or in-person learning. If you choose hybrid, you will attend the classroom session online on two dates in July and you must also complete a one-day field practicum in August or September.  If you choose in-person, you will select one of the 2-day locations.

Scholarships & Discounts

Email and ask about discounts or scholarships before paying.

Discounts are available for companies or organizations sending three or more employees to Level 1.  Current scholarships include: 1) The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is providing a limited number of $425 scholarships for any landscape contractors working in Pennsylvania. 2) The Campbell Foundation, through Lancaster Clean Water Partners, is providing a limited number of $200 scholarships for any municipal staff in Lancaster County, PA. 3) The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance has generous full scholarships for landscape contractors working within 50 miles of Seaford, DE. ShoreRivers has generous full scholarships for landscape professionals serving the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

CEUs Are Available From: American Society of Landscape Architects (LA CES), Association of Professional Landscape Designers, Delaware Nursery and Landscape Association, Delaware Urban Nutrient Managers, International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Maryland Nursery Landscape and Greenhouse Association, Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association, Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association, Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, Virginia Urban Nutrient Managers, Virginia DEQ Stormwater Inspectors.

If you are a student in HORT 127 at CCBC or ACH 113 at AACC, please register with this form.

Level 1 Exam Dates

The Level 1 exam is now offered online.  Candidates may take the exam online or in person after completing training. Due to the pandemic, we are not currently offering the exam in person, but we will resume doing so when it is safe. The cost of the exam is included in the course registration fee.

Level 2

Level 2 is an advanced credential in design or installation of stormwater BMPs. You must be a CBLP Level 1-certified professional to enroll in the 3-day Level 2 Intensive Seminar. If you are a highly-experienced professional, you may be eligible for a Level 1 waiver.  

The fee is $580 for one credential or $630 for both.

Typically, Level 2 is held twice each year.   The next Level 2 class will be held in November 9-11 in Richmond, VA.

The Watershed Institute Green Infrastructure certification (WIGI) is a collaboration with The Watershed Institute that brings an adapted version of the Level 1 training to professionals in New Jersey who design, install and maintain stormwater best management practices (BMPs) and conservation landscapes.  For more information visit the WIGI course page.
