Sustainable Landscape Maintenance Workshop

Organized and hosted by the Virginia Department of Game in Inland Fisheries Habitat Partners, in collaboration with CCLC and the CBLP program.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize the importance of well-maintained landscapes for ensuring that the habitat quality of native plant gardens and stormwater practices remain highly functional, to sustain biodiversity and retain aesthetic appeal.
• Visit a conservation landscape on site and discuss maintenance challenges and requirements
• Work collaboratively, using the CBLP Maintenance Manual, to develop a landscape maintenance plan for a sample residential site
• Understand the importance of providing specialized and adaptive management for stormwater practices and conservation landscapes, and know how this differs from traditional maintenance practice
• Review and discuss specifications for hiring or overseeing contractors to manage landscapes sustainably
