CBLP Winter Salt Wise Certificate

The Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Winter Salt Wise Certificate is a one-day training designed to help landscape, maintenance, and public works professionals make more informed and environmentally responsible decisions about winter salt use.

Through classroom learning and field-based instruction, participants gain the knowledge and tools needed to reduce salt use and its negative environmental impacts—while improving safety and saving costs.

The CBLP Winter Salt Wise Certificate

Ideal for:

  • Landscape, public works and facilities
  • Snow removal and winter maintenance
  • Green infrastructure stormwater or environmental field

Ideal for both crew members and management staff.

What you’ll learn:

  • The impacts of ice melters on the environment, infrastructure, and human health
  • Types of ice melters, and their positive and negative attributes
  • Application rates and how to calculate the amount of material correctly
  • The benefits of a brine pre-treatment and how to apply it
  • Equipment calibration and best practices for the calibration process

Learning format:

  • The certificate is delivered as a one-day, in-person course that includes both classroom and field sessions.
  • Access to the Enhanced Winter Maintenance Training Manual, developed by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin for the Maryland Department of the Environment
  • Participants receive a certificate upon completion
  • Currently offered as a custom course in partnership with agencies and nonprofits
