Tree ID for CBLPs
October 10, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
$50REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT. To be placed on a waiting list, please contact beth@cblpro.org
The morning is spent in the classroom working on our tree ID skills. We’ll go outdoors in the afternoon, honing our ID skills in lovely Sandy Spring.
We’ll use a combination of lecture, individual study, and team activities to build our powers of observation and comparison, on fresh samples of tree twigs and leaves. This is a beginners’ class, designed to help people who’ve either never studied woody plant ID, or who have studied it and it “didn’t stick,” or those who would like a refresher. Accordingly, we’ll limit our focus to a dozen species, but the reference book, combined with skills you acquire in class will allow you to identify the majority of Maryland’s trees.
Registration includes a copy of the reference booklet:
Watts, M. T. (1963, 1991, Rev 1998). Tree Finder: A Manual for the Identification of Trees by their Leaves. Nature Study Guild Publishers, Rochester, NY. (ISBN 978-0912550015)
